I’m not a parent—I just play one on TV

Next Wednesdays, July 2nd NBC’s latest reality TV show, The Baby Borrowers will air:
"The Baby Borrowers" is an intriguing new social experiment based on the hit British program that asks five diverse teenage couples—ages 18-20—to fast-track to adulthood by setting up a home, getting a job and becoming caring parents first to babies, toddlers, pre-teens and their pets, teenagers and senior citizens—all over the course of three weeks.
And from the New York Times Review it sounds like it the show might just actually be on to something:
With no preachy subtext about chastity, “The Baby Borrowers” presents a strong argument for shunning the path of Jamie Lynn Spears. It asks five couples in their late teens, with varying ideas about time frames for marriage and family, to road-test adult life by becoming caregivers — of babies, then toddlers, then older children and the elderly — who rotate in and out of their lives over the course of a few weeks.
According to the show’s website, the show is “not TV, it’s birth control.” Well, perhaps that will be the case, but only if the show is used in conjunction with actual methods of birth control. All kidding aside, I definitely think this is an interesting idea for a show. Hopefully it will get people talking more about the actual issue of teen pregnancy and focused on ways we can help reduce unintended pregnancy.
